Vocational education

Vocational education

The knowledge and skills of people operating in the labour market are largely responsible for determining the success of Estonia’s businesses and the outlook of Estonia’s economic development.

In order to prepare workers with qualifications required in the Estonian labour market, it is important to ensure that the vocational education system provides high-quality, flexible and diverse study possibilities that take into account the needs of the labour market.

Vocational education is the best option for people who already know which speciality they wish to pursue. Vocational education is available for people with and without basic education as well as for people with secondary education.

There is one municipal school operating in Tartu that offers vocational education – the Tartu Vocational Education Centre. In addition to that, there are a number of other, state-maintained vocational schools such as: the Heino Eller Tartu Music College, Tartu Art School, the Tartu campus of the Estonian Nautical School.

An overview of Estonia’s vocational education system can be found on the website of the Ministry of Education and Research of the Republic of Estonia, which also lists schools providing vocational education: https://hm.ee/en/activities/vocational-education
