Annelinn received an eye-catching cycle and pedestrian track

19 сентября / Annelinn received an impressive new 3.3 kilometre long cycle and pedestrian track, which passes through the entire city district.
The pedestrian track, which starts on Pikk Street at Turusild (Turu Bridge) and ends at Mõisavahe Street, is lined with bright yellow chairs and tables of a new modern design, which offer those moving along the track an excellent opportunity to stop and rest their legs. The track is mostly 4–4.5 metres wide, and a 1.5 metre wide separate cycle lane has been constructed in both directions along the section between Anne Street and Sõpruse Avenue.
The designers have designed the entire route of the cycle lane and footpath as one complete whole. There are a number of different types of rest areas spread out across several kilometres, where one can sit and play chess or cards, have a picnic, play table tennis and skateboard. There is a carousel and spring swings for children. Friendly colourful chairs, benches, waste bins, bicycle maintenance points and other items make the route eye-catching and convenient for the user.
The pedestrian track was completed in close cooperation with the residents of Annelinn – good ideas on how to design a people friendly space in the city district were collected at competitions, community meetings, and workshops.
The pedestrian track was designed by Keskkonnaprojekt OÜ and TajuRuum OÜ, built by OÜ Teearu Grupp and OÜ Kivipartner, and owner supervision was provided by AS Taalri Varahaldus. The total cost of the track, including storm water removal system, was EUR 1.8 million. Funding for the construction of Annelinn’s cycle lane and footpath was provided from the European Regional Development Fund’s measure for sustainable urban development.
