Three new exhibitions in the Tartu Art House

Tartu Art House

27. juuni 2019 / This Friday, 28 June, three new exhibitions will be opened in the Tartu Art House: Madara Lazdiņa „Echo” in the large gallery, Jane and Jaanus Remm “t” in the small gallery and Jaan and Johannes Luik “Dialogue” in the monumental gallery.

5 p.m. Madara Lazdiņa „Echo”

The artist is using sound and its physical attributes to describe our relationship with the environment, society and inner selves. Abstract paintings are combined with detailed line drawings, monochrome versus fluorescent brightness. The idea of echo helps to reveal how everything reverberates in our perception and world view, it helps us to see things from a different angle.

5.30 p.m. Jaan and Johannes Luik “Dialogue”

The exhibition explores the father son relationship and the influence they have had on each other. For the son, the most important period was his childhood that shaped him into the person he is: all the images and memories from that time pass through his mind every day. For the father, it was the big change that shifted the focus of his life: children introduced a new variable that influenced his decisions.

Jaan works with material to express the symbolic. Johannes works with the idea to express the physical. The comparable expressive potential of the material and immaterial is represented in the gallery by the circular motion from a physical and spatial to textual and back.

The graphic designer of the exhibition is Kristjan Hinno.

6 p.m. Jane and Jaanus Remm “t”

Highways greatly influence the behaviour and environment of people and animals. Every new road increases the number of drivers. Roads have an important role in how we perceive the landscape and land itself since most people currently live in the cities and an active experience with various landscapes takes place while travelling on the roads from the position of a viewer. Jane Remm’s paintings depict the views from the highway and Jaanus Remm’s photos observe the road and the motion from the perspective of a wild animal as an ecologist understands this. The ways of painting and natural sciences and the roads of people and animals intersect.

The band Sensatsiooniline Tartu Kevadbänd will perform at the opening and guests are invited to share there own stories about being on the road. Come and join the conversation about roads and journeys!

All the exhibitions will remain open until July 21.
