16. veebruar 2021 / Construction of the snow city began in Kesk Park, on Tuesday, with different parties combining their forces.

A total of 40 truckloads of snow-white building materials were transported for the snow city from the old airport at Raadi.

The idea of establishing a snow city began with the Tartu City Government and Tartu Kaubamaja, who are also co-financing the associated costs. Students and employees from Pallas University of Applied Sciences are making a very important contribution to the completion of the snow city, having developed the attractive solution as volunteers while also serving as its builders. In addition, students from Pallas University of Applied Sciences are also building various snow sculptures in the park.

More than twenty students from the Baltic Defence College’s Senior Staff Officers Course, representing 11 different nationalities, are actively contributing as volunteers to the construction of the snow city.

‘The snow city, which is largely the result of volunteer work, is undoubtedly a very cool gift for the local community. Many thanks to all of the partners who came up with the idea and made an important contribution to the construction of the snow city,’ added Deputy Mayor Raimond Tamm, who coordinated the cooperation of various parties.

The snow city will be completed in all its glory by this Friday, at the latest, and will offer activities while also being pleasing to the eye.
