Aura Centre to receive new roof, facade and a longer tube slide this summer

/ The Aura Centre will be undergoing major repairs this summer, during which its dilapidated roof and façade will be replaced, and an additional tube slide will be installed in the water park. The Aura Centre will be closed, due to renovations, from 1 June through 30 September.
The façade of the water park and the swimming pool, as well as the sports hall side of the centre, will be replaced during the course of repairs.
According to Kairit Matto, Director of the Aura Centre, the new roof and façade are made of more modern materials. ‘Thanks to this, we will be able to save thermal energy in the future. Replacing the lighting in the sports pool with LED lights will provide some electricity savings,’ Matto added.
During the course of repairs, a new 60 metre tube slide will be installed in the Aqua Centre; making it the longest among the installed tubes. Right now, the longest tube is 54 metres in length.
According to Kairit Matto, the usual maintenance work will also take place during the summer, to give everything a fresh new look. ‘I hope that we will be able to reopen the centre to visitors on 1 October, the birthday of the Aura Centre,’ Matto added.
According to the Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Tartu Veekeskus OÜ, Deputy Mayor Raimond Tamm, the Aura Centre will be 21 years old this year and the need to renovate the building has arisen. ‘In recent years, we have renovated the sauna centre and technical systems, with renovations now scheduled for the main structural parts of the building. As a result of the construction works, the building will become more energy-efficient and its lifespan will be extended.’
The cost of the works is around EUR 3 million and the contractor is PVH Ehitus. The tube slide will be installed by Vennad Ehitus and will cost over EUR 460,000.
