20 September / City starts design work for the non-motorised transport tunnels and bridge at the Riia-Vaksali intersection.

The work must be completed by next spring, after which the design work-construction procurement will be announced. Construction works are planned for 2020-2021.

According to Urmas Mets, Director of the City Government’s Road Maintenance Service, construction of the bridge and tunnels for non-motorised transport will make the intersection with the heaviest traffic in the city much safer. ‘The connecting roads between the City Centre, Maarjamõisa and Tammelinn will become faster and more convenient,’ said Mets.

Non-motorised transport tunnels will be designed inside the railway embankments on both sides of Riia street, along with a non-motorised transport bridge alongside the railway viaduct. The planned non-motorised transport tunnels are 5 metres wide and at least 3.25 metres high. The width of the non-motorised transport bridge must be at least 4 metres.

OÜ Tinter-Projekt submitted the lowest priced tender, EUR 129,000, in the public procurement for the preparation of preliminary building design documentation for the reconstruction of the Riia-Vaksali intersection and construction of the non-motorised transport bridge and tunnels.
