International History Conference to Explore the Origins of the City of Tartu

/ On November 8-9, the University of Tartu Museum’s White Hall will host the international history conference, "Bisphoric of Tartu – 800 Years since te beginning of Tartu". The conference celebrates the 800th anniversary of Tartu’s beginnings.

 

While registration for the conference has closed, it will be available to watch via live broadcast.

The conference will feature simultaneous interpretation between Estonian and English.

Renowned historians from Estonia, Latvia, and Germany will be presenting. The talks will cover the history of the city and bishopric of Tartu during the medieval period from various perspectives and fields, offering a picture of Tartu as a bishopric center and its development as a significant urban hub over several centuries.

Additionally, a book on the Tartu bishopric, "The Bishopric of Tartu, 1224–1558: The Most Powerful Territory", will be presented at the conference.
