Vahram Muradyan’s work on the facade of the Tartu Art House

/ Today, 31 October at 16 Vahram Muradyan’s large-format work “Tuesday” will be opened on the facade of the Tartu Art House.

Vahram Muradyan is mainly known as an illustrator and designer. His “Tuesday” is presented in the format of an advertising banner that has strong absurd undertones. It highlights the fact that on Tuesdays Tartu Art House is closed so that people could get a respite from art and enjoy nourishment for the body instead of culture. Muradyan uses the contemporary meme-language of the internet to communicate his message and thereby tries to transform the whole building into a selfie-magnet. As befits the conservative tastes of Tartu, this happens during a time when many opinion leaders starting with Kim Kardashian have defined taking selfies as passé.

Due to the nature of the work, the artist wishes to announce that visitors with dogs are first and foremost expected to the opening and a hearty meal will be offered.

Thanks: Opera Pizza.

The work will remain on the facade until May 2018.

Vahram Muradyan (b 1978) is an illustrator originally from Armenia who is living in Estonia. In addition to Estonian media his works have also been published by The New York Times, Newsweek, The Wall Street Journal, Adweek, etc. In 2013, Muradyan had an exhibition in the monumental gallery of the Tartu Art House with Sveta Bogomolova with whom they also made a monumental open-air work for the roof of the supermarket Tartu Kaubamaja for the urban culture festival UIT that is only visible from planes or Google Maps.
