17 May / This spring, the city will begin the reconstruction of Pirogov Square.

“The newly updated Pirogov Square, along with the reconditioned Dome Hill slope and the flag square to be built in front of the University of Tartu Old Observatory, will comprise a complete and beautiful set in the city centre of Tartu, in time for the celebration of the Republic of Estonia’s first centennial,” said Urmas Klaas, Mayor of Tartu.

During the course of work, reconstruction of sidewalks, squares, stairs and support walls will take place, along with the construction of a storm water drainage system. New park lighting will be installed and benches, bins, handrails and other inventory will be replaced.

During the course of landscaping works, new planting areas will be established and the landscaping renewed.

Proposals submitted by the University of Tartu Student Council have been taken into consideration during the planning of the works.

Reconstruction of the Square will begin in May and will last until October. During that time, the Square will be closed to the public.

The renovation works for Pirogov Square will cost EUR 651,960, and the work will be performed by joint tenderers EVIKO AS and Greeny OÜ, the winners of the procurement. The reconstruction project was prepared by Roadplan OÜ and Artes Terrae OÜ.
