Reimo Võsa-Tangsoo's personal exhibition “Immediate Gratification”

/ On Wednesday, May 3 Reimo Võsa-Tangsoo's personal exhibition “Immediate Gratification” opens in the monumental gallery of the Tartu Art House.

We are used to talking about the exhausting effect that overproduction has on the natural environment, but we don't pay as much attention on how we pollute our own human environment.

It is said that an image is worth a thousand words. In the world after the digital visual turn this means that we are producing meaning at an increasing rate, probably already exceeding the production of “real things”. Therefore words, that in and of themselves are less explanatory than images, can facilitate visual economy or visual ecology.

In “Immediate Gratification”, Reimo Võsa-Tangsoo exhibits ekphrastic and mechanically accurate descriptions of photos from the news media of the previous year. He counts on our shared experiences for an identical understanding of not merely the description “sunset on the seashore” but also of somewhat more complex everyday images.

The exhibition is open until May 28.

Reimo Võsa-Tangsoo (b 1976) received his master's degree from the Photography Department of the Estonian Academy of Arts in 2013 and has worked in the Academy already since 2003. He has had a number of personal exhibitions in the galleries Hobusepea and Draakoni in Tallinn. In 2011, Võsa-Tangsoo exhibited his master's series “We Wanted the Best” in Y-gallery in Tartu and in 2015 curator Anneli Porri included his work “… As Close to the Bone as I Could Get, and to Hell with the Consequences” in her exhibition “From Explosion to Expanse. Estonian Contemporary Photography 1991–2015” at the Tartu Art Museum.
