Stanislav Nechvolodov's personal exhibition “Portrait of Women” in the Tartu Art House

Tartu Art House

2 May / On Thursday, May 4 at 17.00 Stanislav Nechvolodov's personal exhibition “Portrait of Women” will be opened in the small gallery of the Tartu Art House.

Nechvolodov's exhibition is dedicated to women from different countries who have been depicted both in painting and in sculpture. Since the works are from four different decades, it can be said that the current selection represents a thematic retrospective.

Art historian Krista Piirimäe has written: “The colours of the Ukrainian folk art and magnificent baroque churches have influenced an artist living in Tartu to such an extent that his dynamism, expressiveness and flamboyant use of colour are like day and night compared to works by Estonians.” The rough stylisation of the elongate figures in Nechvolodov's paintings and their voluptuous shimmer enable a deep and soulful approach to his models while the palette of his works always contains mystic and fairy tale qualities.

The exhibition is open until May 28.

Stanislav Nechvolodov (1935) is an artist from Ukraine who obtained a degree in architecture from Kiev in 1959. Since 1971, he is living in Estonia. His works have also been exhibited in Russia, Poland, Ukraine, Lithuania and elsewhere and they belong to the collections of various significant museums worldwide. In 2002, Nechvolodov was awarded the Anton Starkopf sculpture prize. This is his fifth personal exhibition at the Tartu Art House.
