Tartu Market Hall has reopened

Tartu City Government

13 October / Market Hall, which will be celebrating its 80th birthday this winter, was festively reopened on 12 October.

The building under heritage conservation was closed for reconstruction after Midsummer Day, and over a period of three months comprehensive renovations were performed on its interior spaces.

During the course of renovations the Market Hall’s communication systems were completely modernised, the interior finish was updated, and the building's basement was fully constructed, with the result being a significant improvement to the rest conditions for employees: resting rooms, washrooms, and dressing rooms were built in the basement, and the handling and storage of goods was also completely moved to the basement.

Several new updates await visitors to the newly reconstructed Market Hall – a cafe, taste sensations offered by the showcase kitchen, the Emajõe Pruulikoda (brewery), and several other new traders.

Tartu Market Hall is open to visitors on working days from 9.00 to 18.00 and on weekends from 9.00 to 15.00.

The car park has been expanded to both sides of the building, thereby increasing the number of available spaces and making the trip more convenient for those Market Hall visitors travelling by car.

The main contractor for the renovation was Embach Ehitus OÜ.

Renovation of the Tartu Market Hall cost EUR 2.5 million.
