Tartu Midsummer Day weaves together Midsummer traditions and the best of folk music

/ Tartu will celebrate Midsummer Day on 23 June at the outdoor grounds of the Estonian National Museum on the shores of Lake Raadi. The highlight of the longest day of the year will be a performance by the folk duo Puuluup.
For the second year in a row, Tartu’s Midsummer celebrations will place special emphasis on traditional Midsummer customs, introducing them to Tartu residents and visitors from different linguistic and cultural backgrounds. This year’s program features a Midsummer fair, singing and dancing games with the folklore club Maatasa, workshops on crafting flower wreaths and sauna whisks, guided tours of Raadi Manor, and much more.
The Midsummer area next to the Estonian National Museum will open at 11:00. Visitors can enjoy a variety of food and drinks and explore local handicrafts. In addition, from 11:00 to 15:00, Tartu County Defence Day will take place in the museum’s Car Park A. The cultural program begins at 15:00 and has been designed to ensure that the celebration’s peak moments are accessible and engaging to as many people as possible.
The concert program starts at 19:00 with Trifoor, the winner of last year’s Young Folk Band of the Year award. At 20:00, Mayor Urmas Klaas will light the traditional Midsummer bonfire, after which the headlining act, Puuluup, will take the stage. At 22:00, the band Kiiora and their special project will keep the Midsummer revellers dancing well into the night.
