Winner of the Sadam Quarter planning competition has been determined

võidutöö

/ Puu Tänav declared winner of the planning competition for Sadam Quarter, located in the City Centre of Tartu.

The winning work depicts the restoration of historic Puu Street as a pedestrian area.

The City Centre of Tartu will see the addition of an attractive and open city space, in which it will be convenient for people to move about. The updated open market and performing arts theatre will help keep the area alive from the evening until the morning, and the promenade along the banks of the River Emajõgi will also bring greater movement along the river.

Located in the centre of the planning solution, a location with improved access along Väike Turu Street and in closer proximity to the pedestrian bridge is planned for the open market, which will allow for development of the various areas within the Sadam Quarter without having to close the open market.

The types of buildings proposed in the winning work support the development of the competition area in phases.

The idea competition for a plan for the northern section of Sadam Quarter was announced by the Tartu City Government, in cooperation with OÜ Giga Investeeringud, in August of last year. The competition area is located in the City Centre of Tartu, on the right bank of the River Emajõgi, and is bordered by the River Emajõgi and Väike-Turu Street.

The winning work in the planning competition will become the basis for the preparation of further detailed plans.
