A declaration of friendship between the cities of Tartu and Salisbury was signed on 21 May 1999.
Professor Richard Hoffman from Salisbury University has taught students at the University of Tartu as a visiting scholar.
Recent examples of cooperation:
- In September 2016 a delegation from the City of Tartu visited Salisbury as part of a joint visit to the United States of America by Estonian ICT entrepreneurs and representatives of Tartu.
- In May 2018 an official delegation of the City of Salisbury visited Tartu to learn about public services and smart solutions implemented in Tartu.
- In October 2021, a new pedestrian bridge was opened in Salisbury, which was named "Salisbury-Tartu Friendship Bridge" to mark the friendship between the two cities.
