31 May / On Wednesday, 1 June at 13.30, the thoroughly updated Emajõgi City Swimming Pool will be opened.

Located next to the Lodjakoda, the beach area offers a variety of opportunities for recreation and fitness activities for beachgoers of all ages.

Residents of Tartu will now have at their disposal a modern and attractive recreation area on the shores of the Emajõgi River, where both sunbathers and sports enthusiasts will be able to spend time. Exciting opportunities for activities have been created for children,’ said Urmas Klaas, Mayor of Tartu. ‘Reviving the banks of the Emajõgi River and creating diverse opportunities for spending time there has been one of our priorities in recent years, and work on this will continue.’

Decorative wooden seating and sunbathing platforms and dressing booths have been built on the beach area on the left bank of the Emajõgi River. A large floating platform has been built on the river. Scattered across the beach are children’s play attractions and different types of training equipment, as well as a volleyball court for health sports enthusiasts.

Accessibility has improved significantly – access roads for pedestrians and cyclists have been built, and people with special needs have been provided with convenient access. A cycle and pedestrian track is located on the border of the forest and the beach, which is lined with training equipment and benches. The beach also has new trash cans, benches, a water tap, and bicycle storage facilities.

The author of the Emajõgi City Swimming Pool renovation project was OÜ Kino Maastikuarhitektid, with construction work performed by Lars Laj Eesti OÜ. The total cost of the works was approximately EUR 665,000.
