15 August / From Wednesday, a brand-new landmark can be found in the centre of Tartu – the #TARTU2024 hashtag, which represents Tartu’s bid together with Southern Estonia for the 2024 European Capital of Culture title.

“Hundreds of people and organizations have contributed to our candidacy during two years,” explained Kalle Paas, Project Manager for Tartu 2024. “The landmark with the hash-symbol highlights everyone’s efforts and cooperation.”

“At the same time the landmark in the heart of the city conveys a crucial message to the international jury who will visit us very soon: Tartu and Southern Estonia really are ready to bring their proposed artistic programme “Arts of Survival” to life,” he added.

The Tartu 2024 candidacy team asks anyone uploading content about the landmark to use the #Tartu2024 hashtag in their posts.

#TARTU2024 will be located on Küüni street for the week and thereafter be moved to Town Hall square. The landmark was crafted by OÜ Terratek.

The 2024 European Capital of Culture will be chosen by an independent international panel of experts who will assess both finalists’ bids, visit Narva and Tartu during 26-28 August and hear their presentations. Their final decision will be announced on the afternoon of 28 August.
