6 July / On 8–9 July, Tartu will be filled with the excitement of the Hanseatic Fair.

Taking place for the 22nd time, the Hanseatic Fair will fill the entire downtown area of the city and plenty of performers will be taking the stage, from Koit Toome and the band Justament, all the way to visitors arriving from India. Time can also be spent in a pleasant and educational manner in the Children’s Town, Science Town and Iron Town, all of which are loved by fair visitors.

The excitement of the fair is what best characterises Tartu Hanseatic Days – the central part of the festival, the Hanseatic Fair, will once again fill up the entire downtown section of the city this summer. More than 500 merchants from both near and far will be setting up in River Town. The fair features trading in international handicrafts and refreshments offered by local producers.

Performing on the stage in the City Centre will be Koit Toome and Jorma Puusaag, Justament, local folk musicians, folk dancers and singers, and foreign visitors from the Võru Folk Dance Festival.

Dome Hill has developed into the second centre of the Tartu Hanseatic Days, where the Children’s Town and Science Town offer a number of activities. The Children’s Town stage will have performances intended for children, with a large number of workshops and other activities taking place. In Science Town, smart entertainment will be offered at the University of Tartu Museum and Observatory. For example, you will be able to marvel at the spectacle of the preparation of dry ice cream, and together with the Tartu Observatory share a glimpse of the earth from the cosmos.

On Saturday, Iron Town will be hosting the now traditional display of classic cars around the Tasku Shopping Centre and the strong man competition.

Visitors to the Hanseatic Fair will be transported during the upcoming weekend by coaches from Laane Tallid; as per tradition, residents of Ranna Rantšo can be seen in the animal area on Dome Hill; potters are planning on building a pizza oven, and Vikings will be introducing their activities.

During the Hanseatic Days you should also make sure to visit the Pavement Culture Festival, sponsored by the Widget Factory (Aparaaditehas), the Glasperlenspiel (The Glass Bead Game) concert in St. John's Church, and Magasini Tänava Suvila.
