Tartu and smart city solutions generated great interest at Dubai EXPO business seminar

Tartu City Government press release

Dubai EXPO äriseminar

/ On Monday, 10 January, at the Expo Estonia Pavilion at the Dubai World Expo, Tartu and Tallinn organised an entrepreneurship seminar aimed at smart urban solutions. The seminar introducing smart city solutions was one of the most visited among the seminars held in the Estonian pavilion thus far.

‘Entrepreneurs and the Tartu City Government will be attending the Dubai EXPO 2020 World Expo together, to support companies in their efforts to become more international. Today’s joint seminar by Tallinn and Tartu, in the Estonian pavilion, was packed with people – interest in the solutions employed by Tartu, as well as digital solutions for smart cities, was very high. We hope that our cooperation here with entrepreneurs will also inspire other cities. Our excellent cooperation with universities and companies is what visitors are studying and asking about,’ said Mayor Urmas Klaas.

Ege Devon, Export Advisor for Enterprise Estonia in the Persian Gulf, stated that the United Arab Emirates and Estonia are quite similar in terms of their mindset and ambition. ‘Innovation, smart cities, and sustainability are important keywords for both countries in the world of today and tomorrow. Keeping this in mind, I hope that today’s seminar will lead to a number of successful cooperation projects,’ said Devon.

The joint seminar between Tartu and Tallinn was titled: Creating Cities of the Future with the Help of Tech-Innovation. During the seminar, a delegation from the City of Tartu, led by Mayor Urmas Klaas, will be visiting the Dubai EXPO, which will also include entrepreneurs, representatives from the field of entrepreneurship, and Deputy Mayor Raimond Tamm.

The seminar included an introduction to the best examples of collaboration between the two largest cities in Estonia and the companies that create the innovation necessary for sustainable development. Auve Tech, DATEL, Telia, and four companies from Tartu – Mobi Lab, Positium, Bercman Technologies and EyeVi Technologies – will be presenting their solutions.

The goal of participating in the World Expo is to help Estonian companies and organisations to establish contacts, both in the Middle East region and around the world, thereby increasing the sales of their products and services. The World’s Fair will be open in Dubai until the end of March 2022.

The seminar took place in the frame of the joint business delegation programme of Estonian Association of Information Technology and Telecommunications (ITL) and intelligent transportation systems network ITS Estonia.
