5 January / On 10 January, Tartu and Tallinn will be organising an entrepreneurship seminar for smart urban space solutions at the Dubai World EXPO, titled Creating Cities of the Future with the Help of Tech-Innovation. During the seminar, a delegation from the city of Tartu, including entrepreneurs, representatives from the business sector and Deputy Mayor Raimond Tamm, will be visiting the EXPO. The delegation will be led by Mayor Urmas Klaas.

‘At the Dubai EXPO, we would like to take the opportunity to introduce joint ventures between the city and companies, and highlight the exciting solutions created by local entrepreneurs that could also be of interest in foreign markets,’ said Urmas Klaas.

‘Cooperation with companies is very important in introducing innovative solutions in the urban space and in the daily activities of the city. Our goal is to offer entrepreneurs opportunities to develop and implement their products and services in cooperation with the city,’ added Raimond Tamm.

Following the example of the two largest cities in Estonia, the seminar will include an introduction to the best collaborations between cities and companies, which serve to create innovation for sustainable development. Auve Tech, DATEL, Telia, and four companies from Tartu – Mobi Lab, Positium, Bercman Technologies, and EyeVi Technologies – will be presenting their solutions.

Among other things, the design and software development company Mobi Lab brings real-time information about bus routes from the city to mobile phones, and welcomes visitors to the Museum of Natural History through augmented reality technology.
With the help of the company Positium, which analyses the data obtained during mobile positioning, the entire network of bus lines in Tartu has been reorganized and locations for Smart Bike Share stations selected, taking into account the mobility needs of people. Thanks to Positium, Estonia was the first country in the world to begin using the mobile positioning method to collect official statistics.

Bercman Technologies develops and sells products and services that enhance road safety. One of their products is smart pedestrian crossings, which have also been installed in Tartu. Tartu is home to Estonia’s first 5G Smart Pedestrian Crossing, which is able to exchange standardised messages with self-driven vehicles. A smart pedestrian crossing increases road user safety by using warning lights to direct the driver’s attention to a pedestrian that is in or approaching the pedestrian crossing.

EyeVi Technologies, which offers an innovative in-mapping technology for vehicles, automatically detects road markings and road surface defects, and creates precise maps for self-driving cars.

The goal of participating in the World Expo is to help Estonian companies and organisations to establish contacts, both in the Middle East region and around the world, and thereby increase the sales of their products and services. The World’s Fair will be open in Dubai until the end of March 2022.
