Tartu’s annual New Year’s Eve fireworks display has been cancelled
Tartu City Government Press Release
29 December / Following the recommendations of the Southern Regional Department of the Health Board and the Southern Rescue Centre, the City of Tartu has cancelled its New Year’s Eve fireworks display.
The annual New Year’s Eve fireworks display has always drawn large crowds to the centre of Tartu, who want to watch the show from as close as possible. At present, however, with regard to the spread of the coronavirus, larger gatherings of people must be avoided so as not to create greater risks for the spread of the infection.
The Tartu City Government recommends spending the holidays in a family-oriented manner, while avoiding a high number of contacts.
The City of Tartu will donate the money that was not spent on fireworks to the Estonian Food Bank, which distributes food aid to disadvantaged people.
